If you’re jumping into web design by designing pages upon pages, then it’s time to put your web process under the microscope and look at the benefits of Atomic Web Design.

Traditionally web design starts by creating a series of pages – usually a home page, an about us page, a product page, and so on.

Often these are one-off pages that require a lot of custom code, images, CSS, but the reality is they’re not scalable and, can create a lot of inefficiencies and aren’t really good at integrating with CMS’ or other modern marketing technologies.

Enter Atomic Design.

Atomic Design is a methodology for creating the design systems that will be used in the building of your modern website. We break down the key building blocks into the smallest interface elements, called Atoms, things such as type, colour, grids and so on. From there, those elements can be combined to create Molecules, which are more complex page elements, to Organisms, Templates and ultimately the specific Pages of the website. It’s a very organic process.

This design system promotes consistency and scalability.
